Hello, Python

Learn it

Python is a real programming language used by scientists, game makers and companies like NASA. Instead of blocks, you type code. Python cares about spelling, capitals and brackets!

print() shows text on the screen. Text goes in quotes and is called a string.

🧰 Tool: any free online Python editor such as Online Python or Trinket, or install Python from python.org and use IDLE.

Code examples

Python

print("Hello, world!")
print("My name is Sam")
print("I am learning Python")

Each print shows one line.

Output

Hello, world!
My name is Sam
I am learning Python

Project: Your intro

  1. Open an online Python editor.
  2. Print 3 lines about yourself (nickname, favourite animal, a hobby).
  3. Run it.
  4. Make a typo on purpose (prnt) and read the error, then fix it.

Challenge: Print a picture with characters, like a cat made of /\_/\.
